The woes of communication

by Emma

What is mis-communication? Is it communication which has been missed, or communication which has in fact been misinterpreted? Is there even a difference?

It is crazy how the act of communicating can lead to a number of alternative routes and responses. A simple word can be taken in many different ways. A simple tone or volume of speech can alter how it is fed, and how it is received. The only way to be sure is to ask, confirm, and ensure its true context. Yet we often do not do this, and then we suffer the consequences. Verbal altercations, mood fluctuations, and wounded ego’s. If we simply used clarification, we could save ourselves the rollercoaster of emotional hardship. We could rectify bruised feelings, and saviour those wasted precious moments.

The only other route is to swallow our pride and apologise. Pride can be re-fuelled, friendships and relationships are not as easy to replace. Every day and every situation is a new chapter in the learning curve. To learn successfully, we also need to put this into practice.

The mind of a deep thinker…or complete rubbish…it is all down to interpretation and perception…
